Comment where it belongs

The steering gear inspection report (R2417-230-001) had three findings. Two have been dealt with during the docking:

  • the corroded access hatch coaming of the steering gear compartment has been renewed;
  • the inaudible emergency steering telephone on the steering gear has been replaced and tested.

A finding is recorded on the thing it is about. The coaming is part of the compartment; the telephone is part of the machine.

What to do

  1. Configuration → Spaces, open ER-03 Steering gear compartment. On its Details tab, Has comments already holds Sander’s finding about the coaming. Right-click → Create new Comment and select, double-click the new row’s Content cell, write what was done — use the word coaming — and press the editor’s Save button.
  2. Under Contains equipment on the same tab, click Steering gear (SG-01) to open it — or go to Configuration → Equipment. In its Has comments, create a comment about the telephone.

Do not edit Sander’s comment. It is the finding; yours is the answer, and both belong on the record.

    Why not on the report

    The report says what was found on a date. What was done about it later is a fact about the compartment and the machine, not about the report — the next inspector opens the space and sees the whole story; a comment buried on a superseded report’s revision is one nobody will look for.
